How can I preserve a Mimosa tree stump in my yard to keep it?

My large Mimosa tree got hit by lightning and I had to have it cut down. But the stump that remains would make a great décor for my yard. I have no idea how to keep it from rotting so fast and am hoping there is something I can do to preserve it.

My neighbor is from Japan and puts in a garden on a perfect grid you would not believe. She also put the top of a birdbath on an old stump next to the garden, and the birds love it.
The mimosa may sprout again from the stump.
my mimosa tree that was cut put new sprouts from the side of the stump and made a new tree....it is now taller than my home.
I put a birdhouse on mine, and put small growing flowers around the base.
