If it's truly smartweed then it will have a hot peppery taste. You can use it in soups, salads, stews, and as a nice hot kick on a sandwich.

Really? I have a whole yard full of it, it has smothered every blade of grass. I have to cut it because I have dogs and it grows pretty tall. It dies back in the fall leaving bare dirt/mud, I've tried pulling it out, but that doesn't even make a dent, just wears me out. I've heard it can be burnt, but will return the next year. I can't use any toxic chemicals because I live above a ravine teeming with wildlife and of course, I have dogs. Love to get rid of it...any ideas?
