Using gray water in garden...

I am moving my washer/dryer to a new location in the house and want to drain the water into a barrel so I can use the gray water in my garden. I know that I need to use cleaners that will not harm the plants but what I don't know is how to prevent the stored water from freezing in the winter. What are my options? Any advice? The water doesn't have to be stored for the winter but it seems that where ever it drains to it would freeze. I live in middle Tennessee so our winters aren't horrible. We do get several good freezes each winter tho.

Before you do anything, you need to check with the county you live in. In some places, grey water is not allowed.

I don't think there is any way to keep the water from freezing below 32° in the winter months. You might try a tank heater like we use for our sheep water tank on the farm. You would have to run an electrical cord to it but then the water wouldn't freeze.
