Slugs eat large mature marigold leaves and will completely devour young plants. You don't usually see slugs feeding on your marigolds because they are nocturnal, but you may see the slime trails ( shiny lines) they leave behind. Wait until after dark and, with a flashlight, pick off the slugs and drop them into soapy water. If you can't do that, give them a deep lid-full of beer and let them drown in it. Gross, I know, but it's a non-toxic treatment!

Put a shallow bowl in flower bed in several locations. Fill bowl with beer. The beer will attract slugs that are most likely eating your plants. It has always worked for me. The signs of slugs in flower will show trails of slime on ground like mucous.

I didn't think about slugs. I was like John can't believe anything would eat them they are the one plant that is suppose to keep pest away! I will have my daughter try the beer after the rain (finally getting some). Thanks everyone.
