If you don't have AC, and want to really cool down, use ice blocks with your fans!

Using recycled bottles, freeze water- don't use glass! Leave some extra empty space in the bottle before freezing.

When the water has frozen, set the bottle on a pie or cake pan so the water doesn't drip all over! You can also use a hand towel or place mat.

I got this 10 inch box fan from Goodwill 8 years ago for $7. Place the frozen bottle in front of the fan, and when the air blows it will be cool. This is essentially how AC works (except it uses frozen coils). Now you can sleep through those hot nights.

If you are using the fan in the window- make sure to clip your window shades back. You don't want the curtain being pulled into the running fan. A hair clip from Dollar Tree does the job.

As you can see this large hair clip has long teeth and it should hold a curtain away from a fan, but use 2 if you have a heavy curtain. Never leave home with a fan on.

While you're at it, learn how to clean a box fan!

Suggested materials:

  • Re cycled pop bottle or milk jug   (Just from home)

How long will this keep cooling? I know as long as bottled water stays frozen, but...approximate idea?
