    where is the rust?

Yep, it's on the body. It's a small area where the car was hit right next to the tail light. The car is not worth the cost of a body shop I'm sure. Was hoping I could stop the rust or patch it myself. But the comment below sounds really hard.

Well in thinking your rust is on the body and well that's a job for someone with body work experience. If you are capable then I suggest a You tube video. It takes grinding , sanding, putty , sanding more, and painting . If its not on the body well then never mind, LOL. Good luck.

It will depend on where and how much rust. Will need to remove all of the rust and then if not too large you can buy a bonding agent at the automotive store to fill in; sand and paint. If a large patch it will need to cut out and replace the material, professional job then.
