Cut them off, spray with vinegar, and invert glass jars over them. Press the jars into the ground and leave it there. If you gotta mow there, pick up the jar, mow, and put the jar right back down. The sun will fry your thistle and the ground it's sitting in and eventually it will be completely dead!

The big question is why is your yard full of thistles. You need to figure out how to prevent them, or start decorating jars for yard decorations. 😏

    Hope that helps!

I go out in the early spring and in whenever I see them and dig them up. If you do not get the whole root they will come back. Make sure you also get them when they are small and just barely visible. I have had much success like this and now can walk all my 1/2 acre with out shoes and not a thistle one. Maybe i BETTER watch what I say. LOL

Problem with mowing over the thistle is that you still spread the thistle. If you just cut them off don't you get them back the next year? How long did you leave the jars there and weren't you afraid an animal would break the jar or move it? I have foxes, possums, raccoons, and deer so it would be a great challenge to me to keep a jar where I put it. Not to mention the neighbors dogs and dropped off cats.

http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Thistles, so many questions that appear here have good answers by doing a duckduckgo search. In this case I used "herbicide for thistle in grass". DDG does NOT track what you search for, Google DOES and sells the information.
