I suggest you get a roll of the brown wrapping paper, it comes 2.5'x15'. Lay it on the floor say 2.5x6' long. Then lay out your pictures, rearranging them until you are satisfied. Once you have a layout, draw a line around each of the frames. Then tape your paper to the wall, and you will know where to place the nails. Remove paper and happy hanging.

Yes! exactly what Pat R said. A pattern on the floor transferred to the wall saves the wall from many little nail holes. :)

lay out frames on floor first to get your design. To start your hooks, measure from ceiling down.

Pinterest has lots of examples of types of layouts, too, sometimes it helps to see examples too:

Create a paper template. Line the pictures on a large piece of craft paper and arrange how you like. Once you're satisfied with it, trace photos, mark places for holes, hang on wall, put nails in designated spots, and hang!

I like to cut out pieces of paper in the sizes of my frames and then tape them to the wall. When I get an arrangement I like, I just remove the papers one at a time and hang the frames.

I think Michele's idea with the paper replicas of the frames works the best.
