What oil to use on a Cedar staircase

I just had a cedar staircase built that leads up to a loft are. What would the best oil be to treat this wood. I don't want to varnish it.
Also was thinking about wrapping rope around the banister. Should I use glue at any point or will wrapping tightly do the trick ?

Consider using tung oil to treat your staircase. Tung oil is a penetrating oil and needs to penetrate deeply into the wood fibers and pores.
The first step is to prepare your wood by sanding, repairing, filling any holes or cracks with wood filler. Inspect the surface for a smooth finish prior to applying tung oil.
I like Watco Danish Oil. I leaves a natural look and still protects the wood. I would think if you wrap the rope tight you won't need glue. I would try not to use glue.
Ditto on the Tung Oil. Love the rope idea. Will need to be anchored at each end, not sure what adhesive though. Think about removal, when it gets yucky, you don't want a major construction project when you need to replace. How about staples?
I agree with Tung Oil. Cedar is a tight grained wood and needs a good penetrating oil. Also the Tung Oil will bring out the grain without adding color.
For the rope I would add a drop of hot glue every foot just to hold it in place. No matter how tight you wrap it with temp changes and use it will tend to stretch and l loosen up.
