We don't have pets ourselves but the neighbours cats come into our garden it could be that.
The grass is really nice and green with a few yellow small areas, to many for the cats we have visiting as they usually stick to the same area.
But will keep a look out and check for chomping bugs too!
Hostas are one of those plants that will pretty much survive anywhere. Ive had them in the sun and shade and they have done well in either spot. I dont think you can ever kill a hosta. In a year or two, you can start to separate them and plant some in another place in your yard. They are nice for a border. They are hard to dig up and to separate, use a hatchet if needed, you will not harm the plant at all. There are also many varieties of hostas. Have fun.
