Put the hinges and screws into a large freezer bag, give them 5 squirts of Multi Task Multi-Purpose Cleaner, moved them about in the bag a bit, seal and leave for a few hours.

I could see that after about 3 hours a lot of the paint was loose, so I opened the bag, gave the hinges another 5 squirts, jiggled them around a bit and resealed.

drop in a bucket (plastic ice cream container) and cover with paint thinner. Let sit. Some hinges may need a little scrub.

This sounds crazy...but works like a charm! Put your hinges and hardware into an old crockpot, cover with water, add 1 Tbs liquid dishwashing liquid and stir around a bit. Set the heat on medium and leave overnight. The next day, the paint will literally slide off of the hinges. You may have to use a toothbrush to remove residue in small crevices, etc. I used this method to remove years of paint layers when I remodeled the kitchen in my old 1853 home.

Believe or not, soaking in vinegar usually does the trick too. The crockpot idea above is excellent and I've heard that works very well, and it's not abraisive

My hubby used finger nail polish remover. It really worked. Then washed parts in dish soap.
