Advise on growing healthy tomatoes

That comes from rapid growth after getting watered when they are dry. It is called inconsistent watering. That can happen if it was dry for a while and either you didn't water or didn't water enough and then, boom, they get watered enough from rain or watering them longer so it could soak in better. I have had that happen, especially in my Sweet 100 cherry tomato and yellow pear tomato because they have more water in them. The crack does nothing to the tomato except make it look like its bad. I have also had them seal themselves. I do not get rid of them as long as a bug hasn't dug their way inside.

Sounds like too much water. Do you water in the evening? If that's ;not it then bring them in the house to finish ripening. It's the heat that ripens them not the sun.
