I've seen them covered with wall paper before. I would clean them really well, then wipe down with rubbing alcohol to make sure no oils are on the surface. After that I would play with brushing technique until I found the one I like best. Then seal with clear finish.

I hope they come out great!

Yes they can be painted anyway you would like. There are also many decorative ones in the stores Such as metal, wood and themed ones. You could also find small frames to put around them which could be painted too. Just remember that the color of the actual switch will still show, so I wouldn't choose any dramatic colors.

You could try painting them the same color as the wall and then applying polyurethane over the top to protect the paint. Just clean and scratch up a little bit for the paint to grab onto.

Hello BrownMaryjane, I agree with all of the above. The most important thing is to remove them from the wall before painting. If you have to paint them more than once, it would be easier if they are on a table covered with paper. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Sure, I do this all the time. I like the switch cover to blend in and not stick out like a sore thumb. At times, I have even painted them a slightly lighter color or slightly darker color than the wall color, so people can find them. As some people can not separate colors. So whatever your preference.

I've decoupaged a few of mine. They look attractive.
