Create a one-of-a-kind, vintage/steampunk style gift using old caster wheels!
These old caster wheels were in quite a state but with a little bit of elbow grease, they were ready to go for this project.
A steel brush was used to get a lot of the 'gunk' off. The one on the right shows after a good brushing.
The wheels then went into a white vinegar bath for 24 hours -- just look at all that crud that soaked off!
Here they are completely clean!
The wheels were mounted on moulding pieces from Home Depot. I drilled the holes to screw the wheels to the new bases and painted the bases black.
I printed the photos on matte photo paper (more details on how to do this part in my blog post) and then applied with Mod Podge.
Since I had two, I decided to make them into photo bookends but if you just have one, it would still be a great way to display photos on your desk!
