Why am i getting gigantic slugs in my water barrel ?

Not sure why you are getting the slugs, but can you filter your barrel with some sort of tightly woven fabric to keep these annoying creatures out?
Slugs are attracted to fermented liquids. I would guess your rain barrel or piping have some natural yeasts growing. Clean & scrub your barrel and drain, pipes etc. With hot water and hydrogen peroxid carefully so not to splash yourself. Let it all dry thoroughly before reusing.
