Why do my plants leaves turn yellow and fall off?

I live in Southwest Florida and no matter what plants I put in the ground or in a pot the leaves turn yellow and fall off. I have tried spraying them with organic insecticidal soap assuming it is bugs and even that has not helped. My neighbor said to spray with a small amount of dawn dish soap and water but that caused all the leaves to fall off of my fire bushes. Ugg! I am frustrated and asking for advice.

Hello Ginger; Nice to meet a fellow Floridian!! How about trying to use Peters plant food. Mix it up in a large bucket, it will be blue. Then add it at the base of each plant.

I hope that this will help you!!! Good Luck!!!

Make sure you are not spraying water or anything else on the leaves during the day. That is a Big NO NO

Usually only in the evening. I do get the leaves wet when I water.

You may have a tende to overwater, since it happens no matter what your plants are growing in. Try letting the soil dry out before you water.

I may be fussing to much and over watering. I will let them dry out but they seem to wilt.

I would say with leaves turning yellow, you may be giving them too much or not enough water. All plants either in the ground or potted like to have long slow soaking rather than surface watering. It helps make the roots grow deep and they don't stress as much in the heat.

I have lived in SW Florida and we got rain every afternoon like clockwork in the summer, maybe that will be enough water to sustain them. I very rarely had to water any plants, even in the lanai.

Your welcome! I hope that helps your plants come back to health. If that doesn't do it you can always post again and go from there. Just give them time to recover.
