Fireplace makeover- ideas?

Question

I have a brick fireplace that is not placed properly in my opinion ..it is set right up to our front window the opening is not centered, one side is narrow and the other side is wide ha sort of a ledge for sitting that more like tiles squares. Hate it !! Want to take it out but my husband does not want me too and plus it would be expensive. Dont believe it's real brick from what I have been told. Ideas? Thank You.
