I offered to host a garden party for homeowners that were opening their gardens to the public. As one of the organizers we wanted a way to say thank you.
The toughest job was deciding how to place the tables and ensure that there was enough room for everyone. We decided on this diagonal layout after moving a couple of container plantings. Chairs had to be borrowed so in the future we may buy all white to achieve a nicer look. It's not many people that can say they own thirty chairs, right?
I decided to use all white table cloths to give it that crisp clean look and keep everything consistent. Early in the day I picked flowers from the garden to use for bouquets. After all whats a garden party without flowers? I used mason jars for vases and wrapped pink ribbon around the top edges of the jars.
I used a blue, pink and white theme for the flowers. I couldn't resist using some Clematis as a cut flower. It looked amazing! I love this embroidered table cover that belonged to my mom. She would be so happy to see it getting used for this event.
Isn't this turquoise mason jar the best? My friend over at Garden Therapy gave it to me as a gift and its been used over and over again. Here pink roses are mixed with Campanula and feverfew. Adding some pink fabric under each vase added colour. Fabric cost me less than $2 at a local thrift store.
Both Alchemilla and Feverfew worked great as fillers in the bouquets.
Centaurea montana adds a touch of blue to pink roses and Senecio in this vase.
Yes, I have quite a few roses. The garden club wondered if we had to buy flowers for the vases. icon I still have loads of blooms in the garden.
Next we needed ambience. They say take out your inside decor and use it. Thats just what I did with this fairy tea lighter holder. Each table was adorned with white tea lights and candles.
Of course, we needed a refreshment centre so there was even a pink punch. Yes, pink was the theme colour for our garden party. I brought out my chalkboard sign saying to 'Live, love and laugh'
Even the rustic kids picnic table needed a bit of sprucing up. I added a solar lantern and some more flowers.
I made appetizers using vegetables and herbs from the kitchen garden. Garlic scape hummus was a hit served with assorted fresh vegetables and naan bread. Fresh homemade salsa and tortilla chips kept guests going until dinner was ready. We served the food buffet style and everyone sat outside at our lovely tables. All in all a great night with new friends, conversations and shared love of gardening.
