  • I started by removing the covers and washing them.
  • I labeled the "fluff" taken from the back cushions so I wouldn't get confused when it was time to re-stuff.
  • I used this quilt batting ($9.99 at Walmart) to beef up the cushions.
  • I simply trimmed the batting and wrapped it around the bottom cushions to boost their fluff-ability. Yep. That's the technical term. ;)
  • I put the covers back on the new beefed-up cushions and now my couch looks as good as new.

Painting: Antique mantel & fireplace surround - would you paint it?

I have been trying to sell this mantel and haven't had much luck (I probably just need to bring it to a consignment store). The lower half (fireplace surround) detaches, so the upper ...»
section can be used as stand alone. I was thinking about painting .. maybe with a chalk paint <?> to make it worth more. What do you think? Don't bother? What would you charge for it?

Interior Design: Good resources for beginning interior designer

I am starting out as an interior designer and would like to know if there are any books/magazines/web sites that you can recommend for useful design ideas. ...»

All of the resources that I've seen are only showing pictures of lavish, very fancy homes and extremely expensive products. I am looking for something more down-to-earth,. My clientele is not wealthy. They are the normal folk, looking to make some nice improvements in their normal homes.

I want to learn useful information – good tips for beginners. For example, ideas for maximizing space, working with light, understanding colors, etc...

Would really appreciate your suggestions!
