About Me:

Domestic Diva Extraordinaire! Wife and mama to 3 incredible girls. I have a passion for home decorating and enjoy chatting with others who share the hobby. I'm happiest when I'm digging in my garden or canning the fruits and vegetables which emerge from said garden. I live in the city but I'm most at home hiking the trails or camping with my family.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I have a passion of home decorating. My own house is an array of incredible finds I've discovered thus far in my journey through life. From special vacation mementos to funky thrift store finds! Gardening and in-turn, canning, have become my newest hobby so I even incorporate my canning shelves as a sort of rustic "art" in my kitchen!

  • My budget solution to my screen porch floors ...white washed & distressed.
  • Here are the floors before. When I started my low budget porch makeover I had to have a super cheap way to brighten up the existing floors... 3
  • First I sanded and cleaned the floors. Then using semi-transparent wood stain from The Home Depot, I sprayed on the stain...but I wasn't thrilled. So I took a rag and wiped some of the stain back off... 2
  • Kinda looked like driftwood!
I know some of you won't like this, I understand it's a bit different. :) 3
  • But I'm happy with the way it turned out and I'm almost finished with the porch makeover! 2
  • A quick look at the table! My friends at Behr Paint suggested I use a soft turquoise called Opal Silk...turned out to be my new favorite color!
Have a great day my friends xo 2

White Washing & Distressing Porch Floor!

I'm doing a makeover on my screen porch and I'm doing it on a shoestring budget! The screen porch was built last year over a part of our existing deck and the floors were less than ...»
pretty. When pricing everything I wanted to do on the porch with almost no money, I decided to stain the floors in a semi-transparent white. When I got the stain on, I wasn't thrilled so I experimented with wiping a little of the stain off to give them a distressed look. Here's what I came up with! This isn't for everybody, some of you guys might not like it-I understand, but I'm happy and I spent only $33.00 at Home Depot for the stain!

Do you plan to do something similar to the railing to tie the whole room together?

A house full of mice and a very fat cat.

To keep from being eaten- the mice make sweets for the cats! Of course, they think it's all on the sly. Gracie is always on the lookout to make sure I don't see what's missing from my ...»

My son takes colored pencils to my walls & baseboards and gives my home personality in Beatrice Potter style. Kinda get a warm spot in my heart when I see them!

Personally, I say paint the chevron wall with a lighter color and then paint the other walls ...»
an accent color. That room already looks quite dark and the chevron wall doesn't help matters.

  • This birdhouse has babies! Shhhh...don't make noise if you come up on my porch! 1
  • Flowers in this pot almost destroyed...birds always choose this pot location to nest! No nest this year...they could not get it completely cleaned out.

My squatters -- the birds!

Some weeks ago I posted my front porch redo...well, I had barely gotten everything in place before one of my repainted birdhouses was occupied. NOW WE HAVE BABY BIRDS!! We have to be ...»
careful not to spend too much time out there because Mamma gets very upset with us. Also notice second photo where hanging basket with petunias has been almost destroyed! I always hang 2 baskets but the birds only nest in the first one..??? There is no nest because they could not get all the way down to the dirt through the petunias so I guess they went for the house instead. If I replace the pot, they will just go after it again!
