How can we repair our kitchen sink base cabinet damaged by water?

The cabinets are new and were painted beige with a BROWN glaze or stain rubbed on top of the paint.

Sand, apply wood putty, sand, reprint closest color you can. Glazing is aneasy process. When you're finished it may not match perfectly.

Sandra, There doesn't appear to be a way to clamp the leg so the split wood could be sealed together, so the next best thing to do is to get wood putty, and using a putty knife, push the wood putty into the crack until it is OVER filled slightly. Use a damp sponge (not dripping wet) to wipe off the excess (that gives it just that little bit of extra pressure to make sure it has firmly filled the crack), and then use your finger to feather and smooth the edges out until it is level with the surface of the leg. Let it dry (30 minutes ot an hour). From the picture the crack doesn't look very wide (not over an inch and a half), so I don't believe you will have to sand it smooth; I think your fingers on the damp putty, previously, will have worked just fine. Once the putty has completely dried you can touch up the color with paint to match the cabinet, or use a crayon that matches the color, melt it over the puttied area and blend it in until it matches. ;) Hope this helped you out. Good Luck!

Awesome detail! That could be helpful for so many other things as well! Thank you!

I think your best bet is to fill in the separation with wood putty and sand down to make as even a surface as possible without taking off too much of the existing paint. With a small brush try to paint with a paint as close as possible to the color. After this dries, use the glaze sparingly on top and wipe down most of it. This should come close to what you have.

you might want to try sanding it down first.. then they have this bondo for cars.. you can apply it and it will harden and you can sand it paint it.. i did it for my old doors i had in the house.. they were splitting and it repaired them nicely
