How do I stop armadillos from digging up my plants and yard?

They are actually living under our slab and no matter how many times we fill in their entrance, they dig a new one.

I spread red pepper (cayenne) flakes in and around their holes. Mothballs work too, but I some people don't like their smell

I put pea stone and used cat litter in all holes
