Sand, sand, sand! This will remove any stains and most nicks on the surface. Depending on whether you are painting or staining, you will want to prime it next. However, cleaning and then sanding Is key!

Sand, sand, sand! Sanding will remove stains and many nicks in the surface. Clean the table really well to get it ready for stain or paint. If you are going to paint it, use a good primer before painting!

  • make sure you wipe down the piece after sanding too

That depends if you want to paint it or stain it. Unless you're using chalk paint , you'll have to clean it , sand it, wipe it down again . You're ready to stain now , but if you're painting , you should apply a coat of primer first then , when that dries , you can start painting .
