Hello Mommyle; All I did when I grew Pumpkins was to water them well, and I gave them plant food, twice a month. I also dug slightly around the plant, and put cow manure around the base of the plant.

I have Lovely Pumpkins!!!! I hope that this will help you!!! Good Luck!!

Keep them watered and let them wander to a fence or something if you do not have enough room in your garden for the vines. If you planted it in a pot you will need to have a strong trellis that will be able to handle the weight of the pumpkins, or let them go around the pot on the ground.

Pumpkin plants need to be planted after the frost season ends in late spring or early summer. They don't like the cold. They also take from 90 to 120 days to mature. They need a lot of space to grow so they can spread out their vines. They also need full sun & need to be planted in good well drained non clay soil. Pumpkins need lots of water but don't like to be in water that stands & won't drain. You should prepare your soil about a week before planting & if you use compost, mix it into the soil at the 1 week mark before planting. When you plant the seeds make half foot mounds of soil & plant about 3 seeds in each Mound. Cover the seeds with some compost as it will help to germinate the seeds. Watch the soil & only water when the soil moisture is low. When the pumpkins grow its best to not get water on the pumpkin leaves but keep the soil moist. When pumpkins begin to grow & turn orange, decrease the amount of water you use by half. We also use rootblast & spray n grow, which you can get at Amazon. Just follow the directions on the bottles. Happy growing & harvesting!
