How and when do you split and transplant yellow lillies?

My yellow lilies have been so prolific that they are taking over my flower bed beside the brick walkway that leads to my front porch. I don't want to get rid of them. I would like to split them and move them to some of my less prolific flower beds.

Anytime should be fine. There are several places that sell them around here. Most people buy them when they are blooming so they are sure what theyvarr getting.

In the fall or spring you can dig up as much as you want and either give them away or plant some other place.

Spring or fall. I use a sharp knife, or a shovel.

all lilies can be "divided" after they bloom and the "green" has mostly dried up The green FEEDS the bulbs (true lilies), rizomes (iris etc.) and tubers (daylilies which is what yours sound like?) for next years blooms.

Dig them up carefully - about 6-10 inches away from the bottom of the stems- in one big clump... then carefully pull all the bulbs, rizomes or tubers and crumble the dirt off of them so you can see what you have... put them at the same depth as they WERE but add a bit of peat moss or GOOD dirt to the hole to help them settle in and prevent shock (once they're in, covered with dirt - packed lightly - don't squish them! lol -- then you can water them in - even a little miracle gro - etc.) then walk away until NEXT SPRING! good luck

You can literally dig them up and even cut them in parts with a knife
