My son wanted a Dr Seuss themed birthday party and since birthday parties usually mean spending lots of money I wanted to save when it came to the decorations. I went to my local Dollar Tree and bought the poster board I needed for $4!

You can watch the making of it here and I have pictures of the process as well.

My store had all of the colored poster board needed for Thing One and Thing Two. As for the Cat in the Hat, all I needed was a plain display board. I chose this thicker board since I thought it would be easier to hold for picture taking in case the wind picked up. We had the party out doors and our weather can be pretty unpredictable.
Colors needed for Thing One and Two
To start with Thing One and Thing Two, I start with the body. The body is drawn on the red poster board.
Thing One and Two bodies
This is the way I drew their bodies. The goal is to get a sloppy pajama look.
Face Time
After cutting out the circles for the chest I start drawing the heads. On these I leave an extension in order to tape the heads to the back of the bodies which you will see in the next picture.
Heads secured
After cutting out the head design, I taped each extension to the back of the red body. The reason I made such a long extension for each head is so that when someone picks up the poster board, no matter from where they grab it, it won't come apart easily.
This will save your sanity by you not having to add another thing to do while preparing for your guests.
Blue Hair
I laid the characters on the blue poster board and drew where their hair would be. After cutting out the hair I again laid the characters on the hair to see where to make my slits to be able to slide a small portion of their forehead into without it being able to come down too far (not past the eye brows).
Don't worry if you cut too big of an opening because you can always tape it to where you really want it to be.
Hair secured to heads
Here you can see where the heads are pushed through the openings and taped securely. You can make these bigger than what I did to get a better attachment.
I should have but didn't realize how short I made them until afterward.
Thing One and Thing Two Completed!
Here is how Thing One and Thing Two look like completed! As for the Cat in the Hat, I forgot to take some pictures of the before but all I did was free hand this guy which the full making is shown in the video above. After drawing and coloring him in, I cut a hole in the facial area so the kids can take pictures as the Cat in the Hat.
I had fun making these and my son obviously loved them!icon I hope this tutorial was helpful and if you have any questions, feel free to comment below and I will do my best to answer as quickly as possible.
One final thought, if you're a perfectionist like I tend to be, just relax and have fun with it!

That is so cute and very easy to follow instructions thank you. Just one thing....the "sloppy pyjama look is very similar to me without the sloppy pyjamas :(
