How do I seal decorations on a stainless steel canister

This is the can I use for vegetable scraps that go into our compost bin. The canister gets put in the dishwasher on a regular basis. I don't want the art (?) to come off and clog up the dishwasher.

Hi Jill- most stainless steel appliances are dishwasher safe. If you got it with the art on the canister then you shouldn't, in theory, need to worry about it coming off.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I want to glue pictures to the canister and then paint something over them like polyurithane to protect the 'art' from washing off.
