What plants should I plant living by the ocean?

I live on the ocean, and I mean right on the ocean. It is so very difficult to grow anything due to the salty breeze, sand and little crabs that come in and eat the roots of plants. Bougainvillea does ok and some hybiscus, palms etc What else? There is not a lot of shade but I do have a few areas where the planters are entirely in shade.

i would go to a local greenhouse or landscape store and get their advice on what plants will work for your location...

I live in Mexico so ....no local master gardner office here. but I will keep asking local viveros.
