Floating Bedside Tables Made From Old Pallets

I love finding ways to make / remake furniture. My husband and I came up with an idea to make bedside tables from some old pallet wood. We needed to offer guests at our lake cottage some storage for the bedroom without taking up floor space and adding dressers.

This pallet came with some hardwood flooring we ordered and had delivered. I love the SGS (Scattaglia Growers & Shippers) emblem and wanted to incorporate that into the design. We needed on additional pallet to construct two floating tables. I got the other one from Lowe's when I noticed it laying out front and in really rough shape - they gave it to me for free.

I would say the most labor intensive part of this project was getting the pallets apart without breaking the old wood. The nails were three inches long with a twisted shaft...frustrating! I ended up wiggling the nails out until I could pop the head off the nail and hammer it through the other direction. Then I sanded each piece on every side really good with a palm sander. I wanted each piece as smooth as possible to prevent any slivers. The old wood was so pretty, I reallly didn't want to even put a coat of polyurathane on it - so in the end I left it raw.

I found two metal baskets at TJ Maxx that were the right size for what we had in mind - $19.99/per baskett.

When assembling old pallet wood, you have to drill the hole then put the screw in, the wood can break apart easily.

As you can see here, we were running out of wood, so we had to scrimp a little on the bottom, but the floating tables are still very secure. Then use a level to hang them. Markus swears by a magnet to find the studs...it works better than a studfinder.

I am so glad these are floating, it will make cleaning a lot easier.

What a clever idea!! I live in a manufactured home and space is somewhat limited. These are just great. I love the idea of the hanging end tables so you can clean under them easy. I would love to try these for my room. I have no nightstands. These would be wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing. Do you have more complete instructions on your website??

How and what kind of hardware did you use to hang these floating tables? I have some wooden crates that I will (one day??) repurpose into floating bedside tables.

STUNNING!! Love that You purposely included the Companies logo on both shelves!! One of a kind pieces!! Your home is probably filled with them, for Me that is what makes a house a home, is all the uniquely YOU of it all!! I have worked hard to create a little of this in every room and as soon as I shut the front door I know My townhome is so very different from the others in the Strata!!
There is no better way to show off Your Home pride than to create something repurposed or upcycled and PERFECTLY YOU.
I also love changing things around every few months so I don't get bored. It creates an opportunity for a thorough clean too. I have dogs so the dust bunnies are a constant reminder of the love they shed regularly!!
