The best thing to do if possible is to take it apart carefully and use the old pieces as a pattern for the new fabric. Just depends on the style of the ottoman.

Kimberly Ann Vollema - First go to You-Tube for hands on visual help. Then take the material that on the Ottoman off. You will need tools: Hammer,knife/razor, staple gun, tacks glue. Next you may have to replace the cushion and purchase your material of choice.

First remove the old fabric trying to keep it intact. This will give you a pattern by which to cut the new fabric for the ottaman. Remove any staples still in the piece. If you need to clean it, do this now before you put the new fabric on. Same with painting, staining the base. If your padding, cushioning is still in good shape, reuse it. If not, go to a craft store or even Wal-Mart to get a new piece. Be sure to measure the old cushioning to make sure your new piece is big enough. Use a heavy-duty pair of scissors or utility knife to cut the new foam to the right size. Attach the new foam to the base of your ottoman. Next center your material over the foam. If the base is removable, turn the whole base over and begin your stapling. I always staple one or two staples in the middle of each side. Pull your material tightly after you staple the first side. Then continue around to finish the stapling. Reattach your base and there you have it! If your base is not removable, staple around the outside of the base. Cut away any extra material. Then use some kind of trim or piping to cover the staples. I just glue the trim over the staples area. Now you're done. Good luck.

Turn the ottoman upside down - the fabric will, most likely, be stapled on (with a dust cover over it). Remove the dust cover, and staples holding fabric. Lay the old fabric over your new chosen fabric to use as a template. Cut and staple the new fabric over the padded ottoman seat, being sure to pull fabric tight as you staple it. Turn it right side up and enjoy!

if you can sew, trace the circumference of the ottoman on paper, adding 1/2 inch all around. measure the height of said ottoman adding 4 inches. measure circumference to obtain one long piece that is the height plus 1 inch for seam.

sew long straight piece to round piece. you can add cording between the two pieces if you like that look. either self-cord or store bought pre-covered. when all is sewn together, use a plastic dry cleaning bag over the ottoman and slide the new cover over the old one, or remove the old cover. staple the bottom of the ottoman using the 1/4 method. assuming the ottoman is round, section the piece in 1/4s, fit fabric between those 1/4s and staple, tack, or glue fabric to base. before you fasten the bottom, remove the plastic bag by pulling on one side until it all comes out. good luck
