Found these free books. Published in 1961, they look like they've never been cracked open. I thought I'd challenge myself beyond carving a single letter.
What make's this come together artistically for me is the book title and the words I chose to carve. WE was easy. LOVE took a lot more work (---uh, referring to this project).
They are a work in progress (---still referring to this project) as I want to add my own good stuff to the pages.
Tools: paper templates to trace, chalk, bandsaw, electric drill and various bits, painters tape, box knife, sandpaper, acrylic varnish, patience.
My abbreviated version of the reproduction system.
I did take a white paint pen to the raw cover edges. (They were a little singed.)
The look on their faces says ...
A drill was used to start the triangle and circle by making holes. I used a drill with a rotary cutting blade to cut down deep in the V and a sanding drum bit to smooth out the layers in the O.
Patience came in to play as I had to switch to the box cutter to finish the triangle.
