Help! What colors would match Black kitchen cabinets?

We just purchased this home and are looking to do some repainting. We really want to have black kitchen cabinets. What color would be best for the walls surrounding the kitchen considering the black cabinets and the countertops and backsplash that we already have? Also, all appliances will be upgraded to stainless steel.

I would go with a lighter neutral color. You have the tans in the counter and backsplash so I would go with a cream color. The lighter color would make the black cabinets the focus of the room. If you wanted more color than that you could always do an accent wall.

What about a beautiful dove gray; there is just a hint of gray in the color. The color is light, but sophisticated.

Gray is very popular right now, but be careful in choice because it can take on different tones. Black will go with pretty much any color but I would keep it light. Decide on what style you are going for and that will help with color.

White. White quartz counter top, black granite sink, white walls (or off white).

Invest a couple dollars and buy a large pack of many multi colors construction paper. Put up colors and see what strikes your fancy in color famiies. Then narrow down particular hues and tones with paint charts. (As an artist, when mixing colors, black is made with burnt umber and ultramarine blue. Browns/tans as well as black is the combination of all primary and secondary colors. Thus any color works, but many alone will be too bold a contrast. So you can 'lean' (change the hue) of the brown/tans or greys towards any of the primary colors, the yellows, the blues, the reds.)

Please do not paint your cabinets black...it will suck the life out of the room. I do not see the black relating to any other hard finish in your kitchen (except for the stove). Since you already have a stainless refrigerator, consider a stove to match for continuity.

The reason you do not like the white cabinets is because there is so much contrast with your exisiting backsplash, which is warm in color and white is a cool color. Do not do a white countertop either as that would not relate to your backsplash colors. The colors in your backsplash are warm. I'd paint your cabinets are warm off white. Now I would recommend something different if you love the white cabinets. Another option is to change out the backsplash and countertops. Use cool colors to compliment the bright white cabinets (quartz that looks like marble and subway tile backsplash in white, but use a pale grey mortar for a bit of contrast. I'm looking at your floor, but can't seem to tell what it is..vinyl or tile, but it looks brown. Again, that is a warm tone and does not relate to the bright white cabinets. I'm a professional home stager and a Color Consultant...it's all about the undertones and warm versus cool colors.

Agree with Susan re not painting cupboards black. I'd go for a very warm, rose overtones grey on cupboards. Photos look like there is a bit of that in the counter. As for the walls, maybe cut back on the hue and value of the cupboard color by adding some more white to the cupboard color. Should visually enlarge the room and blend well with stainless, backsplash and counters

Any color you like!!! Black makes colors pop so much more than white, but if you're hesitant to go all bright and colorful, then pick a neutral you like and use a fun color pop here and there. It's your house - do what appeals to you!
