Transforming Country Thrift Shop Hearts to Faux Reclaimed Wood Hearts

I love the look of reclaimed wood, but in the dead of a Minnesota winter, I have little opportunity to make workshop projects.
This project started with two thrift shop cutesy country wood hearts, and ended up resembling salvaged wood hearts.
This is one of the hearts.
It started out like this.
Original country heart number two.
After a lot of gouging and distressing on the BACKS of both hearts, I painted on red and white paint.
Sanded off most of the paint.
Then added a couple coats of matte poly.
Finished heart number two.
