    Everything dissolves in one of two dissolvers: mineral spirits or denatured alcohol.

    acetone from the hardware store. Be carful it might remove the finish

    We used mineral spirits while putting down our wood floors, to get any glue mishaps off the wood! So I know that it is safe to use--now whether or not it'll take off the polish, I can't vouch for, but Lillian suggests it so I would try the mineral spirits.
