Garage Makeover - From Trash to Treasure!

Our garage was a terrible mess! We had so much stuff and so little organization! It was getting to the point that I couldn't find anything - not a tool, not an item I had stored, not a work space - there was no path to walk safely around safely and load myself and the grandkids into my vehicle! I couldn't stand it any more! I am an organizer by nature and my husband is a collector (but not organized) by nature. I gave him a work stainless steel workbench and matching storage cabinet for Father's Day. I told him we were going to go through everything in the garage together and get the garage organized so that we had a space for projects and a place to store the tools where we would always be able to find them. Here's how we did it. First we went through every box, bag or storage bin and pitched what we didn't need. My motto is if it hasn't been used in the last 6 months we didn't need it (some exceptions apply). Next we put everything in boxes, then labeled them, and moved the to the middle of the room. Then my husband put up sheet rock. We painted it and put an accent wall on the end with a John Deere theme. We put uprights on the walls that would accommodate shelves of what ever height was needed. The shelves only go half way up the wall and to the ceiling which leaves free space where it's most needed. It's so much nicer now! I have a place to work. I can find tools when I need them and I can find stored items very quickly.
This is the finished project. We have so much space to move around in now!
This is our garage before we did the make over.
We sorted through everything and began to box and label it,
You can see it's getting a little better as we sorted, boxed and labeled it all.
We painted the accent wall first. This is where we put the work bench so we could get the tools all put away first.
This is a view of the other end of the garage. Notice all of the junk has been sorted and neatly put in labeled boxes.
Every drawer is labeled and all my husband's tools fit in this work bench. The storage cabinet is just a bonus and stores odds and ends.
I found some great metal signs for the walls. This one is in front of the tractor.

John Deere all the way! Love your color choice for the accent wall. If I could just get my other half to do the same thing. Organizing that is. His colors would probably be for Nebraska Cornhuskers.
