I am looking for tips or suggestions for making our home see bigger or recommendations on better organizing our small home. We just recently had our first child but now our house just seems to be getting smaller and smaller and messier and messier! Any thing that you think might help, please share

Congratulations on your baby. They are such a joy, but they do most certainly add to the "clutter" of ones home. If you can't avoid having a changing station in the living area of your home then try what our daughter does. She has a pretty little lined basket with dividers on the chaise part of their sofa where she keeps all the necessities for changing her little on including a diaper changing mat to protect her sofa. Our Grandbaby's room is on the second floor so it's much easier to change the baby in the living room. As for making your home seem bigger chose a neutral color for all the walls and carry it throughout your home. Remember less is more when it comes to little items. A bunch of small furniture in a small home will not make the house look larger. Furnish with only what you need. If you have window treatments have them blend with the walls color to not break up the room. As for organizing there's many of us that love to organize. Me being one of them. Just mouse over my profile and click on the link to the blog I write for to find mine. For others you can go to Hometalks Home page and chose cleaning and organizing under Topics. You can also do a search for any particular topic you need. Here's the link to the cleaning and organizing: http://www.hometalk.com/topics/cleaning-organization

Double duty furnishings are a big help, such as a storage ottoman, bench, or coffee table. See what you can get rid of by determining what can serve several purposes (example: You don't need 6 glass pie plates, 6 cereal bowls, and 6 soup bowls, when the pie plates would do for all three purposes). If there is space you can put drawers under large furniture items like couches. In our tiny kitchen with few cabinets, we installed grids from a retail supplier to hang pots and pans (we also have a low ceiling), and added grid baskets to hold glassware and some packaged foods.

Honestly, some of that feeling you have just comes with a baby. Putting that aside, try to get things that have dual purpose. An ottoman that has storage. A bench where you can put baskets. etc. In a small space, rounded edges on tables are vital in my book - an oval coffee table, a round table. No corners to get bruises from! I love hooks for organizing daily items - quick an easy. Hooks for coats, towels, hats, purses, etc. Get it up off the floor!

I grew up in a house under constant renovation.....14 children, grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, widowed aunt and her two children....paw always blamed mom for all the children.....she had a hearing aid...every night he asked her if she was ready to go to sleep or what.....she always replied WHAT?

Awe congratulations on your new little baby! Isn't it surprising how such a tiny person has so much stuff? Try setting up "zones" in the house for baby items and look for easy access containers that will allow you to quickly put items away when not in use.
