The Hen House is a chicken coop designed and built by Elise Marshall and Tony Kramer of Indian Summer Creatives. This coops visual design elements are inspired by country, vintage Hawaii and modern folk art. Share if you are inspired and connect with us if you would like to know more!
Early phase of development
This image is well past step 1, but it does show the project during an earlier phase of development.
Move in ready
Here, the Chicken Coop project has reached the point where the ladies can move in. They were definitely ready and we were eager to transfer them into their new residence. The chickens were on the brink of outgrowing their double wide carrier and were literally pecking at the doorstep!
Celebratory Project Milestone Snapshot
We are pleased with the door and love to look at it. Next coop enhancement will be 2 sets of shutters that feather wood inlayed  folk styled visual. There is still exterior painting to be done on the structure, one more chicken run door to cut out and install, the attached chicken run itself and fun little bells and whistles here and there in order to gussy up the place.
The front shutters are displayed above and the back shutters below.  Also seen  underway, are a few other facelifts. I am applying Mountain Forest Green (Behr)paint and Grey Beachwood stain to the trim. The curtain hanging in the doorway is a handmade piece I Batik'd sometime last year well before deciding to raise chickens.

I am considering applying a darker stain on the sides of the coop, but I am not sure yet. Ideas welcomed!

Back Shutter, Mountain Nightscape, Wood Inlay
The chickens also have a rec yard that they can access via a little back door. Currently, this door is rigged to a dowel and wire so that all we have to do is pull the dowel to lift the door.

This design element also makes for very easy coop cleaning. Just a few sweep through the opening and the chore is nearly done!
