I'm in the middle of turning a dresser into a TV stand and my grown son tells me he wants some signs for his "garage/bar". Pirate themed. His Graduation from MMI was coming up so I needed something quick. I had already taken apart the bottom 4 drawers and the bottoms of those drawers looked PERFECT for his signs. So I have my "canvases", chose my designs, stain, paint & poly on had. All I needed to buy was something for the "frames".
This is the original dresser. I pulled out the bottom 4 drawers and dismantled them. I used the "base" of the drawer as my "canvas".
One coat of stain. The center is natural so you can see the difference. The stain was a "mistint" that I picked up. Does anyone else LOVE the mistint area?
Stained and stenciled - ready to paint!
Painting is done - next is Poly time.
I bought 3 8' sections of Rope Accent Molding from Lowe's. It will look very nautical. 2 sets are painted black with gold stripes and the other 2 were stained (another great mis-tint find!) with a gold stripe. The one on the far right is "natural" (just for example reasons only). All ready to poly!
I stained this in Antique Jade. Love the "bleed through" look. This is all poly'ed and ready for "framing"
We used gorilla wood glue (on hand, a small bead across) and glued the frame to the canvas. Then gently nailed a picture hanger on the back into the "frame" (not shown).
Sorry about the glare. I'm a short girl.
While it says it took 1 week of time - true, but not all day every day.
