Mis-matched floors? How to transition the different flooring styles?

I need to replace the flooring in my hallway, kitchen, and dining room. The rest of the house has wood floors (I'll need to refinish the living room wood floors). How do you transition the different flooring styles? I was thinking of going with tiles for the kitchen and dining room, and a wood floor for the hallway that connects all the bedrooms and living room. I'd love to see some pictures of your floors where you've transitioned different flooring.

i would do the new click and lock vinyl flooring that looks like wood throughout the house, even in the kitchen. I had ceramic tile in my kitchen at my old house, and never again. I have hardwood floors in my kitchen now and love them.

Our was like this but opposit. We had wood floor in the kitchen, hallway and the entranceway. We had carpet in our small livingroom and to put a wood that didn't match would look silly,so I found a click loc flooring that looked like Tuscany slate. We used a wooden strip between floors to make the transition.

We recently installed the porcelain tile that looks like wood in our living room and dining room. Our kitchen has Mexican saltillo. My husband bought a rounded wood piece and stained it to match the floor and the tile guy installed it for us. I am attaching a close up of the transition piece. It looks higher than it is on the picture.
