How can I get a regular grafted Avocado to grow in Bakersfield, CA?

Question

Had a huge tree when I lived in L.A. Co, but have had no luck with them here in Bakersfield. I've tried two nursery grown trees that both eventually died, any tips for growing avocados?

Here are a few links for you. Kern County may just be too hot and dry, but I still think it is possible. I would try again in the fall so it has time to establish itself before the long hot dry summers. I would also contact your local Ag Extension and see if they have any tips or suggestions. I am also thinking they need more water too. I am just over the grapevine from you in Castaic and have not had any luck in this location myself, but in other areas of LA County I have done well. Funny thing is just miles down the road on Highway 126, they grow like weeds - those few miles make a difference. Keep trying!
