Charlynn, the University of Florida recommends waiting until early April before putting down the first application of fertilizer for Zoysia. It does green up later than St. Augustine and should not be fertilized when dormant. I have a Zoysia lawn myself and if our temperatures continue on the mild side I will probably push that schedule forward by at least a couple of weeks. Central Florida soils generally have enough phosphorus that it does not need to be added via a fertilizer, so look for one with a good percentage of slow-release nitrogen and little to no phosporous, which is the middle number in a fertilizer ratio. I am going to use "Super Green," an organic fertilizer made by Quality Green Specialists in DeLand, on mine. It has a ratio of 3-0-5. There's more on Zoysia care here: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/lh011
