It has ugly textured vinyl and I don't have the budget or the skill to do anything major.

lay a bamboo or teak shower mat. It's easy to pick up for cleaning and looks great too. Find them on Amazon.

You can paint the floor for minimal cost. Clean the floor well. Fix any lifting or damaged areas with adhesive or joint compound. Prime the floor with 2 coats of Kilz2 (water based), then paint several coats of paint (laytex) allowing for proper drying time between coats. You can use acrylic paints and paint a stencil if you want to create a focal point. Seal the painted surface with a coat of wipe on polyurethane (oil based) for protection. p.s. visit your local Sherwin Williams for 'mis tints' and/or returned paints......for little or no charge. Lowe's and Home Depot also have discounted paints. Best of luck.
