Whenever I have to deal with a bowel problem I always start with the tank. Once you have the tank claim it is so much easier to make your bowl clean and maintain it. If you have a lot of rust in your water I would recommend using CLR to start. Flush the toilet and hold the handle down to empty the tank, as it begins to feel pour the entire bottle of CLR into the tank, let sit overnight. The next morning use your bowl brush to clean inside the tank. If your tank is as bad as most of the ones that I have seen you are going to have to flush quite a few times to get back to clear water. The upside is by the time you're done the rust in the bottom of the bowl should be gone. Now that you have your tank clean maintain by adding vinegar to the tank every other week. You will be amazed at how much cleaner your toilet will look with so much less effort.

Hello Joy. are you referring to hard water mineral buildup or actual rust? There is a difference between the two, one is irritating but will come off the other means that your toilet system has a problem with metal corrosion where there should never be rust.

tAnFirst, turn off spell checker on computer.Second, turn off water supply to toilet tank and fush the toilet.Third, use Soft Scrub with bleach (made with bleach)and your toilet brush to scrub it out.If that doesn't work, use Comet. If the stain is real bad,you may have to use a pumice stone made for toilets.Fourth, turn on water, let tank fill, then flush.Fifth, try to fugure out how the stain got there and prevent it.Good luck.

I used to clean houses for awhile and the best product for that was The Works for porcelain. May have to apply a second time if hasn't been done before and then once a week and you're good to go. Could get mine at our dollar store

Try CLR...expensive but really takes away hard water stains and rust...fill toilet past the rust line, leave for 24 hours, then scrub with scrubbing bubbles or any toilet cleaner.
