How to do the German smear technique on my brick home?

I am thinking about trying the German smear technique on my brick home- Has anyone tried this technique and do you think it is a DIY project?

I have seen Chip Gaines do this and I like it. But don't forget they have many workers on their projects. I'm sure it could be a DIY project depending on your energy level and time to do it.
I think its a DIY project and you shoudl post pics when you are done. I love that look!
