I want to give my kitchen and update. I'm thinking I'd like to go lighter and something with a light sheen. My cabinets are currently oak. Any suggestion on paint type?

Thanks

The quality of the job is all in prepong for the paint ! Clean, degrease, Good deg losing ,(fine sanding ) and then removing all sanding dust / then apply paint . A very good quality trim brush and small paint roller.

Take a picture of your kitchen cabinets and go to Home Depot or other paint store. They can best advise you on what to do to prep, prime, and what kind of paint will be the most durable with your finish.

Have you checked out chalk paint? Annie Sloan chalk paint is worth looking into. Seal the paint with a polycrylic not wax. Wax won't withstand the hard use cabinetry gets. Do your due diligence on using chalk paint. For a nice smooth finish put on several thin coats then seal.

We have the same light oak cabinets, and I used TSP to clean them and remove all dirt, grease, etc. Then, I used a liquid deglosser to remove the shiny finish...then one coat of primer, then 2 coats of latex paint. Our Lowes recommended a paint that is specially made for kitchens and baths., It is a bit more durable, and has a light sheen. It turned out beautifully and has been very durable and easy to clean as well.
