Yes as all flowers they should be dead headed,how ever since the flower buds are very close together use a thin scissor for cutting.

I use shears for deadheading my dianthus; it just neatens the plant up.

Hi Robin - I deadhead pretty much everything in the garden - annuals and perennials. You are fine to snip off the dead blooms.
Hello Robin, The more dead blooms you remove, more will replace it with new blooms. So, snip away. You should get good results. Hope this helps you.
