Is the sap on the treee trunk on my cherry trees problem?
Tree looks healthy but has an area where there is a bunch of sap On the trunk just as it begins to branch out.

Sounds like you have a borer. They eat their way into the bark of the tree and leave their Frass behind. You can try to dig out the larvae with a knife or other pointed object. They also like Peach and plum trees.
It is possible that this is a root stock e.g. the top of the tree has been grown on an existing plant. I usually see this where there has been some damage to a branch e.g. two branches rubbing together which creates a wound - hence when pruning you take away any crossed branches. I would take a photo of it and show it to an expert at your local garden centre.
