How to Paint Over Oil-Based Paint With Latex Paint

We have an existing built-in bookcase that we wanted to repaint, but we ran into an issue - it was painted with oil paint, and we wanted to paint over it with latex.
The problem with painting with latex paint over oil paint is the simple idea that oil and water don’t mix. If you try to use latex (a water-based paint ) on top of oil paint (with an alkyd or linseed oil binder) without the proper preparation or primer in between, all your efforts will peel off or chip off before long. We could have repainted with oil paint, but latex is safer, has lower VOC, a shorter drying time, and cleans up much more easily.
So we did some research and figured out the solution to this common problem. Read our blog post below for more info on how to paint over oil-based paint with latex paint!
