A mixture of sugar and borax in low lipped containers. The ants take it back to their colonies and they'll be gone quickly.

In my former house, every year (in June, approximately) I'd see ants around the baseboards by the kitchen sink. There weren't a lot but certainly enough to be a nuisance. I bought a no-name brand of ant traps from the dollar store, put two traps (spaced apart) under the kitchen sink and within a day or two, they were gone.

Make your own bait! It gets carried back to the nest and kills the queen. Soak a cotton ball in the following solution and place in the middle of the "line" near wear they come in.

    Ant Bait

    1 1/2 Cups warm water

    1 1/2 TBSP Borax

    mix well

    add 1/2 Cup sugar

    mix well

    Store in airtight container

You need to keep this out of the reach of childre & pets as it is toxic. If you need, you can put the cotton ball in a small plastic container with a few ant sized holes drilled in the bottom sides.

    Hope that helps

Ah you asked the right person here, we were overrun with these tiny ants in the entire house no matter what we did including a professional spray. I was going to an appointment and say a man in uniform spraying something around the building so I went up to him and asked. We couldn't put dog food down - it would be alive with ants in a moment. We couldn't put anything on our kitchen counters - it also would be alive with ants. This man showed me the Ortho Home Spray container with its own wand . He told me to spray all perimeters around the house - windows, doors, walk ways, and also inside . W e did and now, I have no more ants. It is like a miracle product. We spray about every month again and I can even leave our dog food outside in the patio and NO Ants. ORTHO HOME SPRAY from Home Depot .
