Ideas for small entryway with 20' height

I need to paint this entryway again. I will be painting a chalk color but I need an idea to break up the walls. Years ago I had stenciled the wall to break up the height if anybody can direct me to ant pictures with ideas that would be fantastic.

I was not able to take a full picture of entryway but a small idea of what it looks like

What a great space!!! If I had all that space...I would mural the ceiling and keep the walls simple

You could do the ceiling color down the walls a bit if you want to make it feel less high....monochrome wide strips might be pretty cool to

I can't do anything with the ceiling it flows into another room, so it is not a separate room but I do love your ideas. That is why I want something to do with the walls so they are not just one color.

You could use wall paper in any pattern down low, and pick a color from it for the above part. The make great borders to separate the two as well.

I agree with the wainscoting idea. Alternatively, embrace your high ceilings! Cutting the walls in half like that appears a bit dated. Instead, I would paint a solid color, add some moulding if you'd like to bring the ceiling color down a bit, then find some great artwork or hanging accessories to break it up visually. Good luck!

Can you put in shelves on the lower/ upper part of the wall and house books , odd knickknacks, etc. This would help. Alternatively, put up some paintings on the wall. They would look impressive- maybe one with an angry sea or of Mt Fuji- ie to say of something mighty where both can do justice to each other.

I say Embrace the high ceilings and put a very tall mirror and/or console/ bracket with a shelf on it to fit that area. Put a tall lamp on the area to make it more dramatic. You could also do a glazed stripe or stencil design to bring texture into the area. Having small things in such a tall area will date it or make it look unfinished. Tall sconce arrangements look good there too. Also take a look at your light fixture, bigger can help fill in the area or even adding shades or jewels will be a nice added change. I agree..the height in this area is dramatic and beautiful. In fact I think I would accentuate it with a very subtly colored stripped wall paper, add a tall mirror with a soft white frame and put in a small hanging chandelier to compliment the nice glass work in the doorway and play light against the mirror. It is a stunning space.

Also like the idea of painting the ceiling a slightly bolder color and bringing the color down the wall a bit and trim with very narrow wood trim if you really want to drop the height a bit.
